Employment With Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement

Introduction

Thank you for taking the interest in becoming a member of Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement. As you may or may not have heard, our department has recently undergone several changes in our hiring process.

In years past, potential employees of our department were required to take the state merit exam where a score of 95 percent or higher was required before you would be considered for employment. With our new qualifications based hiring system, potential employees will not be required to take the state merit exam.

Becoming a Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement Officer will now be based on your overall qualifications and potential for job excellence.

Qualifications

There have been some changes to requirements for employment now requiring potential officers to have two years (54 semester hours) from a college or university.

If you do not meet the required 54 hours of college credit, you can still qualify to become an officer in our department if you have any of the following experience:

  1. Two years of experience as a full-time sworn law enforcement officer
  2. Two years experience in military duty; or
  3. Two years experience as a commercial vehicle inspector under the North American Standard requirements.

Special Requirements

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver's license, as well as successfully complete peace officer certification requirements.

Applicants must also successfully pass the appropriate selection process including a physical agility test, extensive background investigations, psychological tests, a polygraph test, a drug screen and a medical examination.

If you meet any or all of the above requirements, you can proceed with the hiring process by filling out an application form through the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet.

Click on the link below and it will take you to the Kentucky State Personnel Cabinet Website. The purpose of this website is to provide all applicants with a convenient electronic method for submitting applications and exploring current employment opportunities. Click Here For More Information
