Accident Information

Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement officers are called upon to work accidents involving all types of motor vehicles. Only copies of the reports worked by Vehicle Enforcement may be requested from KVE Headquarters in Frankfort. To obtain a copy you may fill out and print the Accident Report Form OR follow the steps below:

1. We must receive your request IN WRITING with  your SIGNATURE. - Click here for an accident form
2. Include the Accident Number -or- Tell us the location of the accident (county & roadway), date and time of accident, and name of at least one driver.
3. Tell us your involvement with this accident (are you the driver, vehicle owner, witness, passenger, carry the insurance, etc.).
4. There is no fee however you must include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
5.     KRS 189.635 Authorizes the following persons may receive copies of an accident report:

          A. Involved person

          B. Parents of involved juveniles

          C. Attorneys of involved person

          D. Insurance companies of involved person
         
All others shall be required to file an “Open Records Request.”

Remember to send a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your request

 

Once an accident report has been processed and we have received your written request, we will return a copy of the report to you. Please keep in mind that there is usually a minimum 2-week turn-around time after the day of the accident before we have paperwork completed.

If your insurance company needs information before we can get your report processed, the only way to receive information is for the insurance company to call the Regional Supervisor's Office and a supervisor may be able to refer to the officer's copy of the accident report and relay unofficial information by phone.
